Some Awarded or Published Photographs

This is not a complete list of awarded and published photos by any stretch of the imagination, but it is some of the more recent work and some of the more memorable ones. Memorable for a variety of reasons:  maybe it was a bit of a milestone for getting work published, or the photo won a significant competition, or maybe it’s just that I particularly liked the photo, and was really glad to see it receive recognition.

1st: Capture Science: Earth, Space & Weather photography competition (18 and over professional section).

The Met Service runs a national weather photography competition each year with a first prize of $1000 worth of travel. I won it in 2015(see below), and won it again in 2016 with the above photo.

1st: 'Luminescence Photography Competition'
Celebrating the international year of light through photography, 2015.
With the above photo.

I wouldn't normally display Camera Club competition wins on this page, but in 2015 I had the winning image in the Seascape comp, the Landscape comp, the Portrait comp, The Black & White comp, The Nature Comp, and was the overall winner of the Open comp and the overall winner of the monthly comp. I think there was only one that I didn't win. (In hindsight a tad greedy on my part I think.)

1st: in the Met Service national weather photography competition, with the above photo.

Front cover of the magazine Build.
With the above photo.

One of only three New Zealand photographers to be accepted for the Better Photography's '101 best landscape photographers in the world' competition, with the above two photos. For more info on this, see the write up in D-photo magazine on the subject here.

Silver Medal in the Laurie Thomas N.Z. Landscape Salon.

Published in the New Zealand Geographic book 'Southern Exposure'.

The first time I had work published in New Zealand Geographic (1997).
With the above photos and seven others, in a feature article on the Rangipo Desert.

Front cover of the mag 'Climber' with the above shot. As a photo, this is a personal favourite.

Back in the days when 'Practical Photography' was the biggest photographic magazine in the world, to win this comp was a big deal.
