This one-day photography course will start you down the path of being a photographer.  Quite probably, some of what is below will be compleat gobbledegook to you.  Don’t worry it is just terminology and will all be made clear for you on the day. Our teaching philosophy is based around the principle that we don’t leave anybody behind and the idea that you don’t fully understand something until you have done it.  So when we teach: you learn something, then we all go and practice it, and when everyone has it, we then move on to learn the next thing.

What you'll learn on this course:

  • We’ll demystify aperture and shutter settings.  These are the two biggies.  It is the cameras aperture and shutter settings that we use to determine the way our photos look.  We’ll teach you the how and what with a nice clear explanation that doesn’t leave you bamboozled.
  • We’ll look at exposure and show you how easy it is to get the correct exposure and what a big difference this will make to your photography.
  • We’ll look at your cameras ISO setting: what is it, and give you some simple guidelines to follow.
  • We’ll look at focusing and put you firmly back in the drivers seat, so you are choosing where the camera focuses, not the camera.
  • We’ll look at things like how to care for your camera and basic accessories for the future.
  • We’ll look at Jpeg files verse RAW files and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
  • As well as how to use your camera, we will cover some basic things that will make a big difference to your landscape photography and to your people photography (landscape and people being the two most common subjects photographed)

The above is a brief overview of the bigger subjects we will cover on the day. However along the way, we have lots and lots of little bits of advice for you; far too many to list.

Each course will be limited to 5 people, so you will get lots of one-on-one help.

Price is $235 per person for day participants, or $320 for residential participants.

30 September. Held just out of Waipiata in the Maniototo.

Maximum 5 people.
